University of Nigeria Nsukka, Mass Communication Staff Receive Training Workshop on AI and Media Innovation which was held on the 3rd to 4th of October 2024.
The training focused on Artificial Intelligence and the need for staff to be updated with latest trends.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been identified as one of the key future trends in journalism ethics and practice. To foster this development, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), through its Education Innovation Unit under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, organized a three-day workshop and training session on AI and media innovation in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication.
The event, titled “AI and Media Innovation: Exploring the Future of Journalism and Content Creation,” was held at the university’s ICT building and saw the participation of over 50 teaching and non-teaching staff. The aim was to introduce alternative methods to traditional teaching and learning in the department.
Representing the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, was the deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Johnson Urama stressed the importance of staying up-to-date and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to enhance their professional standards.
Prof. Michael Ukonu, the newly appointed Head of the Department, thanked the university management and highlighted the importance of the training in expanding staff knowledge. He encouraged the use of modern technology in research methods and emphasized that no nation could thrive without embracing technological advancements. He also urged participants to take the lessons seriously as a valuable opportunity for the department.
